» Dear New York Times, Self-Defense Is Not Vigilantism

This is a critical conversation. If the right of self-defense predates and supersedes the state itself, then the circumstances where the state can abrogate that right are limited indeed. In fact, the right of self-defense includes a right of self-defense against the state itself, when the state attempts to harm its citizens.

But rather than deal with this rather basic concept, the Left often changes the subject — from true self-defense to what is better-described as vigilantism

» Prosecution rests in trial for D.C. man charged for one shotgun shell

The District of Columbia has finished presenting its case on why Mark Witaschek is a danger to society for possessing a single shotgun shell and muzzleloader sabots in his home. This outrageous legal battle shows how far unelected, anti-gun liberals will go to attempt to destroy a man’s life.

Right before the trial began, Mr. Nathan’s office dropped the charge from possession of unregistered ammunition to attempted possession.
It’s unclear how Mr. Witaschek could attempt to possess something that was in his home, but the facts aren’t the reason for the shift. The lesser charge carries a penalty of six months in jail, which means Mr. Witaschek was not eligible for the jury trial he wanted.

In other words, they settled for a lesser charge … a Non sequitur … in order to avoid a jury that may have had some common sense. In other, other words they intended to make an example of Witaschek, reality be damned.

~~ via Days of our Trailers: A Nation of Men, Not Laws

the same prosecutor who declined to charge media pundit Gregory for illegally having a 30 rnd magazine, on television, is throwing the book at a guy for having a single, spent, shotgun shell.

These are the types of actions taken in the cause of ‘safety’ and ‘common-sense’ gun laws. Is it any wonder we distrust any and all attempts to pass more laws?

» “Take down the sign or go to jail. We do not approve of guns…or you.” National City, CA, threatens gun shop over sign

This is the unmistakable messages sent by progressives when they take over a city and freedom pays the price. Ares Armor is a small tactical store operating one of their stores in National City, CA, a suburb of San Diego. Nevermind that CEO Dimitri and his staff at Ares Armor are in complete compliance with all laws and ordinances. That does not matter. That’s because guns are at the heart of this debate. The City Council has taken offense to their presence there and is pulling out all the stops, perverting the legal system to destroy them.

We discuss this case study to the communist (progressive) mind and consider how hypocrisy and injustice are welcomed in dealing with both the 1st and 2nd Amendment.

» Reality and Energy Expansion

… the United States in the reign of Barack Obama is enduring the most prolonged period of slow growth and high unemployment since the Second World War …

There is one segment of the economy that has defied the trough, though, and that’s energy. The U.S. is now the world’s leading producer of hydrocarbons. The International Energy Agency predicts that the U.S. will produce more petroleum than either Saudi Arabia or Russia by 2015. For the first time since 1949, the U.S. is a net exporter of gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel. For the past several years, the oil and gas industry has added between $300 and $400 billion annually to the economy. Without the hydrocarbon boom, the economy would still be in recession.

President Obama has attempted to take credit for the boom in domestic-energy production. His website boasts that “the President established a national goal in 2011 to reduce oil imports by one third.”

The president can issue goals and schedules to his heart’s content, but like so much else about his tenure, these words are piffle ….

» USA Is Almost Totally Reliant on Communist China for Antibiotics

Obama has steadily eroded the military’s readiness to free up money for his runaway entitlement spending. Reportedly, the Air Force has grounded a third of its active duty combat fighter/bomber squadrons, and only two of the Army’s 35 active duty brigades are ready for major combat operations.

The Army is headed toward its smallest size since before WWII, and the Navy to its smallest fleet since before WWI. Obama has promised to cut our nuclear arsenal by one third.

In stark contrast, the Chinese military is in double digit growth mode. Already it has by far the largest military in the world in terms of manpower.

» When Failure Is Success

Losing a job is freedom from job lock. A budget deficit larger than in any previous administration is austerity. A mean right-wing video caused the deaths of four Americans in Benghazi. Al-Qaeda was long ago washed up. The Muslim Brotherhood is secular. Jihad is a personal journey. Shooting people while screaming Allahu akbar! is workplace violence. Unaffordable higher premiums and deductibles are the result of an Affordable Care Act. Losing your doctor and your health-insurance plan prove you will never lose your doctor and your health-insurance plan — period! Being a constitutional lawyer means you know how to turn the IRS and the FCC on your enemies. Failure is success; lies are truth.

… Obama will always poll around 45 percent. That core support is his lasting legacy. In a mere five years, by the vast expansion of federal spending, by the demonizing rhetoric of his partisan bully pulpit, and by executive orders and bizarre appointments, Obama has so divided the nation that he has created a permanent constituency that will never care as much about what he does as it cares about what he says and represents.

In short, there can be no scandals, or even good or bad news, just what Obama represents — an exemption from normal protocols of public and media scrutiny on his actual record. And so he has established two legacies. He will probably never win back a majority of inductive Americans again, and he will rarely lose his deductive base.

» SCOTT WALKER RESPONDS TO ATTACKS BY CUTTING TAXES, AGAIN

This is possible because of the success of Walker’s policies that were enacted over the violent opposition of the labor unions and left in Wisconsin three years ago.

The success of his reforms led to this year’s budget surplus of $912 million. After the tax cuts Wisconsin will be able to add $100 million to the rainy day fund, or as the State Senate prefers, held against contingencies.

When Scott Walker defeated Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett in the November gubernatorial election in 2010, the state faced a $3.6 billion budget deficit. The former Democrat Governor Jim Doyle and Democrat legislature had repeatedly tried to “fix” the deficit by adding on job killing taxes that slowed growth and job creation in the state. Wisconsin lost 133,000 jobs in the previous governor’s term.

Good policy pays off.

Tens of thousands of union activists demonstrated around and in the State Capitol three years ago. Scott Walker and the Republican House and Senate held their ground and reformed state government. Now teachers, students, and taxpayers are reaping the benefits of governing well.

» On the March in Caracas

The world cries, and rightly so, that the demands of those marching in Kiev be heard today, and sanctions against the Ukrainian government already are being enacted. But there is an awkward silence on the subject of those who are on the march in Caracas. Perhaps that has something to do with the Western intelligentsia’s shameful embrace of Chávez and Chávezism and their subsequent ambivalence about the immediate and entirely foreseeable legacy of that embrace. Who can forget the Reverend Jesse Jackson’s praying at Chávez’s graveside as Sean Penn and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad looked on? Or Representative Chaka Fattah and other Democratic grandees eagerly accepting gifts of discounted Venezuelan heating oil on behalf of their constituents? Representative José Serrano’s paean to the dictator as a man committed to “empowering the powerless”? Oliver Stone’s praise of the “great hero”? The lionizing of the authoritarian regime by Harry Belafonte and Danny Glover? Barack Obama’s physically clinging to the man who would later denounce him as a “clown”? The descent of Venezuela into autocracy and misery has been enabled in no small part by American elites and by elected members of the Democratic party specifically. There should be a reckoning for that fact.

» Piers Morgan, Another Foreign Moralizer, Bites Dust

Abysmal ratings have left CNN’s leftist import Piers Morgan with a one-way ticket back to Britain. Americans don’t want, or need, foreigners’ guidance on how to think.
… Morgan has spent the last three years condescendingly seeking to make the American public less American — and insulting guests who oppose his elitist pronouncements.

Americans love to listen to the various British accents. But not as much anymore, thanks to the radical leftist imports like Morgan constantly belittling and mocking everything we believe in.

Morgan has mocked “the absurdity of the Second Amendment” and would “make it illegal for anyone under 25 to buy a gun of any kind.”

When a fellow CNN personality this month complained about “a Brit” lecturing Americans, Morgan retorted that “It seems like it’s entirely down to a Brit, because your lot can’t sort out your own gun problems.”

Nestled comfortably in the protection of free press and free speech under our Constitution he used it to attack our Constitution … and assist our enemies:

It was Morgan a year and a half ago who gave prime time to then-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to, as Morgan put it, “explain his views on the Holocaust.” Ahmadinejad peddled the outrageous nonsense that denial of Nazi genocide was about “freedom of research.” Morgan gushed that “we both believe in peace .. . you’re a scholar. You’re a very intelligent man.”

» Piers Morgan’s Revealing Rancor

» Piers Morgan’s Decline and Fall

Certainly, one does not expect newcomers to any land to mask their political opinions. But it is generally preferable for the recently arrived to at least like the people that they have joined, and, too, for them to attempt to comprehend where their opponents are coming from. Morgan engaged regularly with supporters of the Second Amendment, but he somehow managed to avoid learning a single thing about them and their beliefs. Here, perhaps, the British accent did not help.

» Climatology Fail

Climatology has been falling on its face lately. In addition to the failure of global warming predictions to come true in the last 16 years of “pause,” this year’s severe winter for most of the country came as a surprise to the Climate Prediction Center of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. That august taxpayer-funded climatology center “predicted that temperatures would be above normal from November through January across much of the Lower 48 states,”

The predictive models in use seem to have some major flaws. Climatology is a relatively young discipline, yet has received major funding for its research based on the apocalyptic claims made about global warming. The field is almost entirely based on complex mathematical models. Models are fine, but they need to rigorously be refined, and for that to be effective, assumptions must be challenged. With a phenomenon as complex as climate, the assumptions must be incredibly numerous, so correcting and refining may take a long, long time.
This process is cut short when political and bureaucratic pressure exists to find a catastrophe that strengthens the power of regulators in the name of saving the planet.

» CLIMATE-CHANGE CONSENSUS: THERE IS NO CONSENSUS

More bad news for the Church of Global Warming …

The American Meteorological Society … emailed all AMS members for whom the AMS had a mailing address … and asked them to fill out an online survey on global warming. More than 1,800 AMS meteorologists filled out the survey, providing a highly representative view of scientists with meteorological, climatological, and atmospheric science expertise.

The central question in the survey consisted of two parts: “Is global warming happening? If so, what is its cause?”

Just 52 percent of survey respondents answered Yes: Mostly human. The other 48 percent either questioned whether global warming is happening or would not ascribe human activity as the primary cause.

con·sen·sus
: a general agreement about something
: an idea or opinion that is shared by
all the people in a group

52% is not a consensus, it’s barely a majority.
The “science” is not settled, never has been. But the core agenda remains the same and is easy enough to define by consideration of the results of the agents, methods and policies that are proposed to end a non-existent climate threat.

Importantly, the survey addressed merely one of the necessary components of a human-induced global warming crisis. The survey did not ask whether temperatures are warmer than those of the Medieval Warm Period or other recent warm periods, did not ask whether temperatures are warming at a rapid pace, did not ask whether recent warming has been harmful or beneficial and did not ask whether transforming our energy economy would stop global warming or pass a cost/benefit test. Certainly, many of the 52 percent of meteorologists who believe humans are primarily responsible for some warming would nevertheless question some of these other necessary components of a human-induced global warming crisis.

May I ask the American Meteorological Society precisely why it didn’t ask these important follow-up questions? I suspect the answer is, “because they really didn’t want to know the answers.” Factor out the people who believe in man-made climate change but can’t explain Inconvenient Truths like the Medieval Warm Period, or the current climate-change “pause” of nearly two decades, which absolutely none of their models foresaw. Take away the people who think man-made climate change is either a very minor issue, or actually beneficial.

What remains would be the crisis-mongers, who have an absolute grip on government power in the United States, for as long as people like Barack Obama find them useful.

… we’re still spending billions of dollars based on Church of Global Warming ideology, ranging from money poured into green-energy rat holes, through the delay of vital projects such as the Keystone XL pipeline… at a time when the fracking revolution has brought America to the verge of true energy independence. The more shaky the case for man-made climate change grows, the more loudly fanatics scream for the burning of heretics. Every question is now answered with a sturdy blow from the “Science Is Settled” cudgel; fanatics speak openly of abridging or erasing the First Amendment to deny free speech to those who challenge their beliefs.

» Judge Rules (Duh!) That NYPD Can Spy On Mosques

… judge agreed with the common-sense logic we’ve argued all along: Police can’t monitor the country for Muslim terrorist activities without monitoring the Muslim community itself — including its places of worship, where too many terrorists are radicalized.

“The motive for the program was not solely to discriminate against Muslims, but rather to find Muslim terrorists hiding among ordinary law-abiding Muslims,”

Thanks to the program, New York has disrupted 18 major terror plots against the city since 9/11.
Sadly, the same can’t be said for other cities where political correctness has trumped effective terrorist-hunting. If Boston authorities had been as proactive as their counterparts in New York, they might have caught the radicalization of the Tsarnaev brothers at their Cambridge mosque and disrupted last year’s Boston Marathon bombing plot.
The usual cry has gone up from Muslim activists, who claim the ruling injures Muslims by trampling on their religious rights.

Once you’ve been stung a few times by hornets do you muzzle your dog or thumb a lighter under the hornet nest?

» Arizona Legislature Defends Christian Businesses From Gay Militants

Media liberals preposterously but predictably screeched like scalded cats that the rights of homosexuals are violated if private citizens are not compelled by the government to enter into relations with them that violate their consciences. Their attempt to equate this with civil rights struggles of the past is an insult that should enrage blacks.

Senate Bill 1062 was explicitly inspired by an outrageous case from neighboring New Mexico, where a Christian photographer was sued for refusing to photograph a ceremony that according to her Christian beliefs was a blasphemous travesty.

The New Mexico case created a new sport for militant homosexuals, who can seek out Christian businesses, demand they participate in activities that are clear violations of their religious beliefs, then crush them with a lawsuit if they refuse to betray their faith. A particularly appalling example is the bullying of Jack Phillips, a principled baker in suburban Denver.

» Communist Storm Clouds Gather in South Africa

… if a white person owns it, the government is going to take it, just like in Zimbabwe, which has been reduced to basket case status by similar policies.
… Malema revved up supporters by proclaiming that after 20 years of democracy, blacks are still poor. The implication is that it is time to give up on democracy, and go whole hog on the communism.

When communism doesn’t work either, there will be no going back. After the wealth that was produced when property rights were honored has been devoured by the government, there will be nothing left but poverty and tyranny, as in Zimbabwe.

» Why Mrs. Clinton’s Entire History Matters

If the perpetuation of willful ignorance toward a politician’s background seems familiar, that is because we were subjected to it only six years ago, and then again two years ago, including by Mr. Romney, one of the very people now suggesting that there should be a disconnect between Bill Clinton and his equally egotistical and megalomaniacal political consort. Perhaps if Mr. Romney had been willing to enter the target-rich environment of his opponent’s relevant and disturbing political and personal history, he would be sharing his thoughts from the Oval Office, rather than an interview room at the local Fox affiliate.

We live now under the growing shadow of a man who owes every landmark event of his life to the progressive triumvirate of ignorance, prejudice, and superstition. He shares this aspect of his résumé with Mrs. Clinton. But for the profound psychological deformities of those who constitute his “base,” upon which he relies for the illusion of validation, it would be impossible to escape exposure as a complete fraud. Bill Clinton enjoyed similar support, and Mrs. Clinton fully expects that the left’s loyal soldiers will lay themselves down for her. It is her turn. She really believes that they owe her this prize.
