Michael Yon, bringing home the ground realities of the wars.

A crew from the United States Air Force spent Saturday night and Sunday morning airlifting different groups of wounded soldiers from Kandahar to Camp Bastion to Bagram, back to Kandahar, then back to Bagram, and back to Kandahar. These patients were from Afghanistan, Australia, Canada, and the United States. Here, an Air Force nurse caresses the head of a wounded, unconscious Canadian soldier while whispering into his ear.

Pamella Geller provides a follow up on Yon’s story.
» America, A Love Story

So while some real Americans risked life and limb to save some of our Canadian brothers-in-arms, thereby creating a fresh new outpouring of affection for America by Canadians ….

The anti-Americans in D.C. are doing everything they can to alienate and enrage another of our allies, the Brits.
» Obama refuses to support Britain in Falkland Islands dispute with Argentina

Yesterday we wondered whether President Obama would support Britain in the latest dispute with Argentina over the Falkland Islands? Today we learn Obama decided not to support Britain, our closest ally.

According to the Times, The Obama/Hillary State Department insisted that the U.S. position was one of longstanding neutrality.

Oh, well then. Barry and Hillary insisted. That settles it, bugger off you Limeys. I reckon you’ll think twice about helping the U.S. again, eh?
Besides, Barry’s buddy Hugo is one of the stink-makers in the situation, and we can’t go and make Hugo mad.

Like Dan said at RedState,

This is how Obama repays Britain for continuing to support our special relationship and providing thousands of British soldiers to lay their lives on the line alongside their American allies on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan.

Do not let Obama get away with this latest outrage. Call the White House. Call your Senators. Call your Representative. Tell them the American people, if not their current president, back our most dependable and important ally. So should the federal government.

Thanks to my British friend for bringing this to my attention.

Ron Paul’s foreign policy is bad for the right and America
» KUHNER: Conservatives’ isolationist dalliance

Mr. Paul is a fiscal hawk and an economic realist who understands the danger to the constitutional republic posed by the Fed and big-government liberalism. No wonder many younger conservatives and libertarians admire him.

On foreign policy, however, he is wrong – dangerously wrong. His opposition to the “welfare-warfare state” is misguided. A strong national defense is crucial to America’s survival, especially in an age of global Islamic terrorism.

Mr. Paul’s foreign policy views hearken back to those of the old isolationists of the 1930s and 1940s.
They argued that America was safe within a continental defensive perimeter, protected by two oceans. However, Pearl Harbor demonstrated the myth of Fortress America. The Sept. 11, 2001, attacks also exposed it.

» Ron Paul: Dangerous Isolationist, Yesterday’s Man

What is much more important than his fiscal hawkishness is Ron Paul’s foreign policy. No matter how much he makes sense on auditing the Federal Reserve (which is a good idea) his isolationism is 1930s-era “old-speak” that would get us all killed. On foreign policy, Ron Paul is dangerously wrong and anti-American. Our next president will need to be a fiscal conservative, pro- military and someone who recognizes we are at war with radical jihad. That is not Ron Paul. He is yesterday’s man.

» ObamaCare Lays Groundwork for Unprecedented Level of Totalitarianism

Control is an end in itself for liberals. There is no point at which they will ever say to the individual: that’s enough, you keep the rest of your freedom, any more than they would ever say, that’s enough, you keep the rest of your property. Liberalism is a cancer; it will continue to metastasize mindlessly until either it is cut out or it kills the host. There is no other possible outcome.

» Stop Al Gore Before He Lies Again..and Again…and Again!

In November 2009, the Telegraph, a British newspaper, carried a story, “Al Gore could become world’s first carbon billionaire”, so let us disabuse ourselves of the notion that Gore just wants to save the world.

» Unsettled Science

The scientific community is unsettled. Beyond our borders, the people are unsettled. The press is unsettled. And all because the science, it turns out, is unsettled. The hysteria must end. It’s time for science to de-cult and get back into the business of science.

» A Brief, Illustrated History of the Public Sector Unions That Are Bleeding America Dry With the Full Support of the Democrat Party

In 2009, private sector union members were outnumbered for the first time by their public sector counterparts.
The historical basis of unions revolved around workers receiving a reasonable share of a company’s profits. But that tenet is nonsensical when applied to public service. Governments don’t make profits; they simply assess taxes.

» Obama’s Micro-Mismanagement of HAMP Equates to “Can-Kicking Stupidity”

I’ve come up with a radical scheme that could possibly work to end the housing crisis:
1) People that can’t or won’t pay their mortgage lose the house.
2) The banks take the house and sell it to people who can afford it.

There are a few flaws:
1) It doesn’t require massive amounts of government money.
2) It doesn’t protect people from their mistakes.
3) It doesn’t punish responsible people who are patiently waiting for houses to become affordable.
4) It could result in the banks that helped create this mess failing.

In spite of these issues, I believe we should give it a try.

“Honest adults with licensed guns, go away. Lawbreakers looking for sitting ducks, step right in.”
» Handgun Derangement Syndrome Grips Restaurateurs

The benefits of having decent citizens carry concealed guns outweigh the one-in-ten-million chance that one of those citizens will turn not-so-decent and shoot you. Law-abiding Americans brandish handguns in 2.5 million defensive incidents a year — once every 12½ seconds. In most cases, a gun’s mere appearance settles a brewing conflict. The National Center for Policy Analysis found that major crime plunges when law-abiding citizens carry concealed handguns [ii]. The same NCPA study, covering every American county, found that murders dropped by 8.5 percent, while rapes and serious assaults fell up to 7 percent in states with licensed concealed carry. Furthermore, if states without licensed concealed carry would institute it, then 1570 murders, 4180 rapes, and over 60,000 aggravated assaults would not happen each year.

» The Dead Road of Socialism

The lure of socialism is that of the golden Utopia, a promised land in which the sun always shines, there are never any rainy days and there’s enough of everything for everyone. In real life it doesn’t work that way. Economies, like any other natural system, have upturns and downturns. There are losses and gains. Resources are finite and are generated through wise trade and reinvestment. In the rhetoric of the socialist utopian though, it never has to rain, all the days can be sunny, wealth is endless and only greed prevents it from being distributed equally by the wise and all-knowing government bureaucracy.
