» The Beholden State
More and more California taxpayers are realizing how stacked the system is against them, and the first stirrings of revolt are breaking out. Voters defeated a series of ballot initiatives last May that would have allowed politicians to solve the state budget crisis temporarily through a series of questionable gimmicks, including one to let the state borrow against future lottery receipts and another to let it plug budget holes with money diverted from a mental-health services fund. In a clear message from voters, the only proposition to gain approval last May banned pay raises for legislators during periods of budget deficit.
With anger rising, taxpayer advocates now plan to revive older initiatives to cut the power of public-sector unions.
I’ll bet you haven’t seen very much news about Iran during the past week or 10 days, have you? And yet there’s lots of news
Rulers of the Islamic Republic are looking more and more like the gang that couldn’t shoot straight, and Banafsheh uncovered a document that should cause them considerable embarrassment. It’s a flyer, recruiting virgin women for prostitution in a brothel located in the holiest site of one of the two holiest cities in Iran: the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashad. You might wish to read the whole thing—it includes going rates—but here’s the essence of it:
In order to elevate the spiritual atmosphere, create proper psychological conditions and tranquility of mind, the Province of the Quds’eh-Razavi of Khorassan has created centers for temporary marriage (just next door to the shrine) for those brothers who are on pilgrimage to the shrine of our eighth Imam, Imam Reza, and who are far away from their spouses.
To that end, we call on all our sisters who are virgins, who are between the ages of 12 and 35 to cooperate with us.
It’s a religious thing, you see.
Nuclear fusion, the process powering the sun and stars, has so far only been mastered as a weapon, producing the thermonuclear explosions of hydrogen bombs. It has never been harnessed for power generation.
Friday night is always the time for information embarrassing to our rulers to be dumped down a media black hole. It was only released at all under threat of subpoena from Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA).
The initial $85 billion to bail out AIG was supplemented by an additional $49.1 billion from the Troubled Asset Relief Program, known as TARP, as well as additional funds from the Federal Reserve. AIG’s debt to U.S. taxpayers totals $133.3 billion outstanding. …
AIG received the bailout of $85 billion at the discretion of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, which was led at the time by Timothy Geithner. He now is U.S. treasury secretary.
At his “discretion,” this tax cheat stole $85 billion of our money and passed it out among his friends both here and abroad. Our country is ruled by criminals who are systematically looting it into bankruptcy. When the economy inevitably collapses, their cronies in the media will blame it all on the capitalist system that made America rich, but that progressives have corrupted beyond recognition.
When the NAACP allowed itself to be used by the Democratic party to try and smear a grass roots movement for smaller government as racist, the resulting controversy shone a light on more than just racism by individuals associated with the NAACP, but with the organization’s inability to delink class warfare from racism. If there is one thing that both the white media elites at Jornolist and the NAACP leadership agreed on, it’s that fighting for smaller government is racist.
Don’t you just love the fact that these Democrat control-freaks never — never — voluntarily pay the higher rates they want you to pay? That’s because they’re hypocritical Statists who hate America — and I hear that’s the phrase they prefer.
the federal government is broke. Democrats stole all of the money and then some. We’re letting our kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enter the world decades from now owing the principal and interest on Joe Schmoe’s 99-week unemployment extensions.
99-weeks of unemployment isn’t a safety net. It’s welfare.
Everything you needed to know about Obama could have been learned from his campaign.
‘I think when you spread the wealth around it’s good for everybody.’
‘For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country.’
‘It’s not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.’
Doubtless many factors have contributed to shaping the Obama outlook. But if there is one thing above any others that explains it, it is that he is a product of the academy—in his case Columbia University, Harvard Law School, and the University of Chicago.
Immigration: Even with time running out, Democrats haven’t dropped the idea of ramming through illegal-immigrant amnesty to create more Democratic voters. Their new push shows an array of underhanded tactics to sneak that in.
After passing major programs that most Americans don’t want — from a wasteful stimulus to a health care nightmare — Democrats know it’s time to pay the piper with voters.
The ‘Palestinians’ have received more aid per capita than any other group, and we’re constantly hearing how impoverished they are, It has to be the most successful con game in history.
…
what did all this aid cost the truly needy in the world? Where could this money have gone instead? Why have the Palestinians continued to receive so much largess, even after they’ve been caught stealing so many times?I can answer the last question.
The Palestinians picked the right enemy.
So the conservative agenda is, in a word, refudiation. Indeed, given the dramatic moment at which we have arrived, one might say that we now have the prospect of a grand refudiation of liberalism.

… he demanded a $1 senior discount on his ferry fare to Fire Island’s popular gay haunt …
Guess he found the rates hard to swallow?
I didn’t say that, but the guy who did failed to grant permission to use his name.
