» Are gun-free zones really murder magnets?

At face value, what LaPierre and Pratt are saying seems reasonable because at the heart of this belief is the notion that criminals while being dumb enough to resort to a life of crime are yet logical enough to prefer and, in many cases, seek out what many people refer to as soft targets.

Being mindful of self-preservation, most criminals would choose the path of least resistance. The soft target. The opportunity with a low risk and a reasonable reward. But the question we have to ask ourselves is whether mass killers are logical enough to account for the security measures of a potential target, also whether the security measures act as a deterrent, in the case of a well-armed location, or a motivating factor, in the case of a gun-free zone.

» Eeek! An Armed Citizen!

Rational people understand that a gun is a tool that can be used to murder human beings, or used to defend the innocent. The UN’s anti-gun film seemed to concede as much – while insisting that guns should be denied to everybody but designated agents of the state. Private ownership of firearms is “illegitimate,” the presentation insisted, and can only bring “insecurity, pain, suffering, and devastation.” The only “legal” firearms, the film insisted, are those “used by armies and police forces to protect us.”

This arrangement is part of what the UN describes as its program for “human security,” which envisions, among other things, “norms of non-possession” of guns by citizens. Each national government would claim and exercise a territorial monopoly on force, overseen by the UN’s peacekeeping apparatus.

just as Stalin preferred to hold public trials and extract confessions from people he was going to execute in any case, those who are determined to disarm the American public would prefer to exercise “legal” authority in doing so. This explains a proposal by former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens to subtract rights by adding five words to the Second Amendment: “…when serving in the militia.”

» Right questions on guns and more could complicate presumptive Hillary power bid

Hillary Clinton’s views on gun control change as frequently as her hairstyles,” Emily Miller writes in a Monday Fox News report.

She’s referring to public statements by Clinton that, while seemingly bipolar, are more reflective of political opportunism and pandering. But while the widely-presumed potential Democrat presidential candidate talks duck hunting to one crowd of useful idiots, and gun registration to another, her underlying affinity for gun-grabbing remains unquestioned for those who keep an eye on such things. That’s because it reflects a history of deception on disarmament that goes back to the early years in Arkansas.

» Local Police Acquire Military Hardware to Defend Against Veterans

In theory, veterans are people who have put their lives on the line to serve their country. In practice, they are people who have put their lives on the line to serve their government. In theory, serving their country and serving their government is essentially the same thing. In practice, this suggests what the current government thinks of the vets whose patriotism it has exploited:

As American military forces return from Iraq and Afghanistan, one Indiana police station is benefiting from a mine-resistant vehicle once used to tour the war zone to combat a new breed of criminal with military training.

‘When I first started we really didn’t have the violence that we see today,’ Sgt. Dan Downing of the Morgan County Sheriff’s Department told Fox 59. ‘The weaponry is totally different now that it was in the beginning of my career, plus, you have a lot of people who are coming out of the military that have the ability and knowledge to build IEDs and to defeat law enforcement techniques.’

» CNN Boss Says Network Won’t Be ‘Shamed’ Into Covering Benghazi Committee

At a dinner with journalists in New York earlier this week, CNN’s president indicated the TV network wouldn’t cover the Benghazi committee unless it was “of real news value.”
“We’re not going to be shamed into it by others who have political beliefs that want to try to have temper tantrums to shame other news organizations into covering something,”

From the comments:

* real news value. like the 2 weeks of ” still no information on flight 300″ whatever.

* This, coming from the same idiots who covered the Malaysian missing airplane tragedy non-stop for 3 weeks straight, 28 hours out of the regular 24 hour news cycle… Who even brought in experts in Sci-FI and UFO’s to try to explain the missing airplane and fill “valuable” air time. Who, without ANY REAL developments on the missing airplane story, speculated for days on the possibilities… I guess that was of “…real news VALUE!

I’m old enough to remember when only black people called black people “Uncle Tom.” Democrats, however, long expanded the category of who can play the race card and on whom. Call them equal opportunity race-card players.

As with black race-card hustlers — say the Revs. Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or any given host on MSNB-Hee-Haw — white race-card players label others “racist” for the crime of disagreement. As with black race-card hustlers, white race-card hustlers need not name names when accusing someone of “racism.” And, as with black race-card hustlers, the mainscream media will not bother to ask the white race-card hustler to identify said racists.

Democrats would rather just brand unnamed Republicans as “racist,” no matter how absurd or outlandish the charge. Given this tepid five-year-old “recovery,” the Obama-loving/leftist media/academia/Hollywood crowd cannot, during this off-year election cycle, brag about economic growth. So look for more topic-changers like “income inequality,” climate change and the eternal struggle against the unknown “racist” obstructionists who sit across the aisle.

» AMERICA’S BUDDING TYRANTS by Uncle Walter Williams

From the Nazis to the Stalinists, tyrants have always started out supporting free speech, and why is easy to understand. Speech is vital for the realization of their goals of command, control and confiscation. Basic to their agenda are the tools of indoctrination, propagandizing, proselytization. Once they gain power, as leftists have at many universities, free speech becomes a liability and must be suppressed. This is increasingly the case on university campuses.

Western values of liberty are under ruthless attack by the academic elite on college campuses across America. These people want to replace personal liberty with government control; they want to replace equality with entitlement. As such, they pose a far greater threat to our way of life than any terrorist organization or rogue nation. Multiculturalism and diversity are a cancer on our society.

» Folks, you’re missing the point about Donald Sterling by Uncle Allen West

have we come to a point in America where being a jerk is grounds for confiscation of a private property?

Sterling’s comments were repulsive, but they were stated in the privacy of his own home

Where is the cultural, public outrage over a behind closed door comment such as referring to the State of Israel as an “apartheid state?” Probably most of America doesn’t know who said it or even what “aparteid” means.

Or how about the outrage that should have come when our own president leaned over to then-Russian President Medvedev sayng, “Tell Putin that after my reelection I will have more flexibility” and of course Medvedev said, “I will tell Vladimir.” And now we know what that “flexibility” has allowed.

Aren’t those “private” chats reflective of behavior that is dangerous for the United States?

~~ via Hope n’ Change Cartoons : Call (of Duty) Waiting

The president who arrogantly boasted on the campaign trail of being able to “do two things at once” put all of his attention on ruining the healthcare system of the private sector, rather than repairing the damage already being done by an existing government-mismanaged medical system.

» Obama gins up his outrage act over VA scandal

President Barack Obama is fed up — again.
He’s outraged over his latest scandal involving lethal delays providing promised medical care to American veterans — again. Because, Obama claims, he didn’t know about it — again. And he’s vowing to get to the bottom of the problem — again. And hold all those accountable — again.

The fact that this now-flaming, outrageous scandal is even worse today than 1,948 days ago when he took office gets obscured by the intentionally distracting histrionics of a president of the United States looking angry for the cameras.

every time he gets in trouble, Obama is 1) surprised, claiming he had no idea such an unacceptable thing was going on, and 2) vows to get to the bottom of it. Alas, that comes with a time-consuming investigation allowing him to defer questions. At least while the media heat is on, after which his attention span and promises evaporate. And he claims it’s old news, previously investigated.

Flashback 53 weeks: “I’ve reviewed the Treasury Department watchdog’s report (on the IRS targeting conservatives), and the misconduct that it uncovered is inexcusable. It’s inexcusable…Americans are right to be angry about it…I am angry about it. I will not tolerate this kind of behavior in any agency.”
“We are,” Obama vowed, “going to hold the responsible parties accountable.” How about starting with him?
Since then, Eric Holder’s FBI dropped its probe without charges.
… And then Obama again …
… And yet somehow …
… exculpatory ignorance …

» Tap The Breaks On That Tea Party Decline

The strength of the Tea Party was never going to be measured by how many of its candidates did battle against the Republican party; its success is confirmed by the extent of its thorough infiltration of the party, moving it to the right by championing consistent, unapologetic conservatism— which is all the Tea Party has ever been.

» The Hard Sell on Climate Change

Media outlets continue to push a crisis scenario, and the public isn’t buying.

It is ironic that as witch hunts for climate-change skeptics have been intensifying, the public’s interest in climate change has been declining steadily.

“Global-warming alarmists have turned off the public by hyping their claims, and people over time have seen through it,” Ebell told me. “Now that the disasters that were predicted for the time period we’re in haven’t materialized, the alarmists have started to say that every climate change is part of an unfolding disaster.” The problem is that people understand weather has long been variable and has had extremes. So the environmentalist message isn’t selling.

… over time the cumulative effect of the media hype will be a continuing decline in the public’s credulity. When media outlets blindly join a cause that has the air of a secular crusade, truth is the first casualty; ratings are the second casualty.

If Reid had his way, the U.S. Constitution would include the phrase “in-kind equivalents.”

“in-kind equivalents” – Which is to say “and stuff like that”, or as we say here in the South “and stuff”.
Reid would love to have an amendment that says simply “Congress shall have the power to control stuff”
