» The Boy Who Cried “Racist”

… just maybe we non-Muslims have been barking up the wrong tree. Maybe those crazies don’t object to every depiction of their prophet, they just get their shorts in a knot when they see him pictured as a teddy bear or, as in that Danish cartoon, as a bearded, wild-eyed, goofus wearing a turban shaped like a bomb. I suggest, as a test, we try making him look like Brad Pitt or George Clooney. If they still go berserk and insist they’ve been insulted, I say we stick Mohammad in a dress, lipstick and high heels, and quit pussyfooting around.

» Feeding America’s twilight

Something is in dangerous intellectual disrepair in America. And if we don’t fix it, America will be lost.

» FTC Proposes Federalizing Newspapers, and Killing off Blogs

… this is nothing less than a sinister, diabolical effort to shred the First Amendment and create a state-run media complex designed to report only what the government wants reported.

This is an utterly ominous development and one that should remind readers why this President embraces dictators like Hugo Chavez. He seems to envy the control that dictators exercise over their subjects.

And he seeks to emulate them.

» Will journalists wake up in time to save journalism from Obama’s FTC?

Everybody who wants independent journalism had better wake up to these three facts about what is going on right now:

* Journalists must understand that there is no way the First Amendment’s guarantee of freedom of the press will survive if the federal government regulates the news industry. Those who accept at face value protests to the contrary or the professions of pure intentions by advocates of government takeover of the news business are, at best, incredibly naive.

* Journalists who remain silent or apathetic about what is being prepared for their profession become unintentional accessories in the strangulation of independent journalism.

* Journalists who support or assist, for any reason, the FTC process are accomplices in the strangulation of independent journalism

» Enemy of the States

The people and government of Louisiana have prepared an emergency plan to protect their marshes and bayous from the floating sludge

bureaucracy and bureaucrats prevent the people from implementing their plan.

The State of Arizona also faces two enemies: The army intruders crossing an unsecured border is one, and the federal government that refuses to secure it is the other.

Louisiana and Arizona are suffering abuses and usurpations at the hand of a distant central government that cares not for the safety and happiness of their people, nor does it care to execute the few inconvenient responsibilities assigned to it in an inconvenient and forgotten Constitution.

Arizona and Louisiana may find themselves at the spearhead of movements by many states — states fighting the health care mandate, states fighting federal confiscation and retention of land, states fighting EPA carbon regulation, states grappling with their own immigration problems, states starting to realize that “help” from Washington is anything but helpful, states that may start to realize that taking matters into their own hands may be the only means left for securing the Republic and preserving liberty.

» GOP moves to repeal healthcare law

House Republican leaders introduced a bill Thursday to repeal and replace the sweeping healthcare law adopted in late March.

Democrats laughed off the GOP effort to repeal the law.

» Big blunder cost New Jersey teachers years of goodwill

One bad decision, one stupid miscalculation, can wreck years of good will. An overwhelming majority of teachers refused to accept a pay freeze. They could have won taxpayers’ eternal gratitude, but instead demanded their negotiated raises and fought against contributing a dime toward budget-breaking health insurance benefits. Teachers could have pitched in, but they dug in.

They thumbed their noses at taxpayers, who have lost their jobs, had their pay cut, gone bankrupt and fallen into foreclosure. As taxpayers made less, teachers demanded more. You do that, you become a villain. Fast. It doesn’t matter how many stars Junior gets on his book report.

In an astonishing fall from grace that has taken only months, teachers have gone from respected and beloved members of the community to some of the most reviled. In a blink, they have trashed years of good will.

» Just When I Thought It Could Not Get Any Lower

The interpretation of Duty, Honor, Country is completely different for those wearing the uniform today and those who have worn it throughout our history, and that of Mr. Obama.

For President Obama, Duty is to those who paved in dollars his ascension to power and to pander only to the segment of the population that wants to keep him there.

Honor is toward his own agenda and radical political ideology.

Country is not the United States as the American people want, but a continuous degrading and reneging of all that our Nation has been for almost two and a half centuries.

» The Vanities of the Bonfire

Does “BP” stand for “Boy President”? ‘Cos I’m not sure America’s golf courses can take the presidential pounding they’ve been getting if this crisis continues.

» California Penal Code Section 834b

California’s immigration law … is essentially the same as Arizona’s.

And essentially the same as the federal laws. The only thing that distinguishes Arizona’s law from California and the federal law is Arizona intends to actually enforce it.

» John Stossel: Going “green”

Al Gore’s group, Repower America, claims we can replace all our dirty energy with clean, carbon-free renewables … within 10 years.

“It’s simply not possible,” says Robert Bryce, author of “Power Hungry: The Myths of ‘Green’ Energy.”

Bryce used to be a left-liberal, but then: “I educated myself about math and physics. I’m a liberal who was mugged by the laws of thermodynamics.”

“The problem is very simple,” Bryce said. “It’s not political will. It’s simple physics. Gasoline has 80 times the energy density of the best lithium ion batteries. There’s no conspiracy here of big oil or big auto. It’s a conspiracy of physics.”

» 1000 Fallen American in Afghanistan, Milestone to Some, Inspiration to Others

The 1000th American serviceman killed in Afghanistan had already fallen victim once to a hidden bomb, and was so eager to return to war that he pushed through his rehabilitation.
Cpl. Jacob C. Leicht, a Texas Marine, was serving his second overseas tour. His first one in 2007 lasted only a few weeks after his Humvee drove over an explosive, breaking his leg.

He almost lost that leg, but after two years in an Army hospital recovering, he successfully lobbied to return to the battlefield.

Leicht had only been in Afghanistan for a few weeks when he stepped on an explosive and was instantly killed on May 27.

His older brother Jonathan Leicht says Jacob was “someone who knew he wanted to be a soldier from the moment he could speak.”

and from the comments –

See you in a while, young man. I’ll shake your hand when I get there.
